If food is often associated with home, then it only makes sense to build the perfect kitchen to be the centre of it all. The classic Ikea kitchen is one where you would enjoy spending hours in, absolutely beautiful, and fully streamlined for efficient cooking and food preparation.
Ikea currently offers three kitchen types: the well-known METOD kitchen system, the KNOXHULT kitchen, and the SUNNERSTA mini-kitchen.
Whether you’re looking for a complete kitchen you can customise any way you want or a simpler kitchen you can install in a day, there’s an IKEA kitchen system that meets your needs and preferences.
METOD Kitchen System
METOD is nearly synonymous with IKEA kitchen. The METOD kitchen system includes cabinets in several different sizes to fit your layout and kitchen habits. It’s fully flexible and customisable so you’re free to mix and match cabinet and drawer types as needed.
Your ideal kitchen is easier to achieve with METOD.
Other than cabinets and drawers, IKEA METOD also has an extensive range of fittings and kitchen organisers so you can make the most of your space. These allow you to use even the furthest corners for clean storage.
The METOD kitchen system also comes with a vast selection of IKEA doors, kitchen cabinet fronts, benchtops, lightings, sinks, taps, knobs, handles, and everything else you’ll need to create the kitchen of your dreams.
KNOXHULT Kitchen
While less flexible than the METOD, KNOXHULT comes in pre-set modules you can freely arrange to your preferences. They’re often purchased with our LAGAN appliances to build a very affordable but complete kitchen with all the basic functions.
From there, you can add the sink, tap, knobs, and handles to complete your custom IKEA kitchen.
The KNOXHULT is designed for simple installation. The preset modules allow you to assemble a fully functioning kitchen and use it on the same day you bring it home from the store.
SUNNERSTA Mini-Kitchen
Smaller spaces don’t have to sacrifice functionality and style. The SUNNERSTA mini-kitchen is made just for those who live in cozier spaces or those who don’t really need an elaborate or permanent kitchen system.
If you live in a rented space, this kitchen set is perfect for you. It’s easy to buy, bring home, install, and then take with you if you need to move somewhere else.
Simply add the portable TILLREDA induction cooktop and fridge and you’ll have everything you need to cook your next meal. This kitchen set is perfect for small apartments, guest houses, dorm rooms, or wherever you might need a totally portable kitchen.
With IKEA kitchen systems and IKEA doors, you can build the kitchen of your dreams without breaking the bank.
IKEA Kitchen Planner
The kitchen is the space where you cook, entertain, and chill-out. It’s also a long-term investment so it’s completely understandable if you want everything to be completely planned out.
Thankfully, there are easier ways to make the vision in your mind a tangible one. IKEA’s Home and Kitchen Planner on their website makes it much easier to visualize and choose products for your kitchen.

Save $25,000 on Renovations
The federal government of Australia recently announced a $25,000 grant to help home builders and renovators. This means you can have the kitchen of your dreams for only a fraction of the price.
The $668 million plan from the Property Council of Australia is meant to help start up construction again and revitalize the economy.
To qualify for a HomeBuilder grant, the owner-occupant must fit the following qualifications:
- A natural person (not a company or trust)
- At least 18 years of age
- An Australian citizen
- One of two income caps:
o $125,000 per annum for an individual applicant based on your 2018-19 tax return or later; or
o $200,000 per annum for a couple based on both 2018-19 tax returns or later;
- Enter a building contract between 4 June 2020 and 31 December 2020 to either:
o Build a new home as a principal place of residence where the combined value of the house and land does not exceed $750,000; or
o Substantially renovate your principal place of residence, where the renovation contract is between $150,000 and $750,000; and the combined value of the house and land does not exceed $1.5 million
- Construction must commence within three months of the contract date
While the minimum qualified cost for the renovation will still require you to spend $125,000 from your own pocket, this is still a hefty offer that can significantly reduce the cost of your renovation.
The kitchen is only one part of the home you can renovate but it can also be one of the most costly because of the different parts involved.
Don’t let the price stop you from building the kitchen of your dreams. With Ikea’s affordable kitchen options and the HomeBuilder grant, it’s closer to reality than you think!
The government estimates the scheme will fund about 27,250 homes so it’s better to grab your chance fast. Start building your dream kitchen in the IKEA Kitchen Planner and process your application to make it a reality.
